What are CBD Edibles like CBD Gummies and CBD Chocolate?

CBD can be taken in a number of ways - you can smoke CBD flower, vape CBD e liquids and vape oils or pop a drop of CBD oil from a CBD tincture under the tongue - but, one of the most popular methods is eating CBD infused edibles such as CBD edible gummies or CBD chocolate.  Excitingly, as the market has developed so to have the quality and standard of CBD edibles on offer to you.

In this post, we wanted to give you a rundown of what CBD edibles are, what you can pick from and why we think ours are some of the best out there!

What are CBD edibles?

In the US, you will find two main types of edibles - those that are basically all CBD (with zero to minimal amounts of THC) and those that contain a CBD and THC mix whose ratios vary. In the UK, however, the only CBD edibles you will find for sale in the UK are CBD dominant and the CBD will only have been derived from hemp not marijuana. This is because CBD products have to come from hemp and are only allowed to have THC content of 1mg per packet or less. This will mean a CBD edible experience will be different to that which you have in the UK!

We have heard a number of stories of friends who have taken a THC dominant edible in the US, have found them extremely moreish or did not “feel it” so decided to consume quite a few more and then have ended up so high they can barely move. Thankfully (or sadly depending on where you sit on the spectrum), there is no risk of this happening over here in the UK.

CBD edibles come in all different shapes and sizes - gummies, hard candy, chocolate, baked goods, drinks, savoury snacks. The US has the most extensive selection to pick from, but over here in the UK we are beginning to see a wider selection of treats be infused with CBD.

The right CBD edible for you really depends on your taste buds and the type of experience you are looking for. Again, we are fairly limited over here in the UK, whereas in the US the decision is more whether you want a high or not, and how much of a high you want to feel if you do. So whether (if you have the choice) you pick something with THC in it - and then you will need to go for the right balance of THC to CBD. Obviously the higher the CBD to THC ratio, the lighter the high and vice versa.  If you are looking more for the wellness benefits of CBD, then a CBD dominant edible with none of the high, but all of the benefits will do the trick.

What are CBD edibles made from?

As with all CBD products, CBD edibles in the UK can be made from three types of CBD: full-spectrum CBD, broad-spectrum CBD and CBD isolate (we explain what this means here). Each refers to the varying amounts of additional cannabinoids contained within it - as we’ve said before it is widely believed that CBD is more effective at stimulating the endocannabinoid system when it interacts with other cannabinoids and terpenes - this is known as the “entourage effect.”

What are the benefits of CBD edibles?

In our opinion, there are a number of benefits to consuming CBD edibles as oppose to other formats:

  1. You can more accurately track the amount of CBD you are putting into your body. Each edible is individually dosed (for example ours are 20mg CBD per gummy) so you know exactly how much CBD you are taking at a given time. This is a lot harder to monitor when you are vaping CBD or smoking CBD flower.
  2. It is a slow release format - when taking CBD in an edible format there is lower bioavailability meaning less of the CBD is absorbed in a longer time frame compared to say vaping CBD (we explain this in more detail here).  This means it will take approx 1.5 - 2 hours after eating your delicious CBD edible
